If An Hour Remained
04:18
|
|||
Should you follow your will wherever it leads?
When you make a decision, are you half as free
As one who orders his affairs with quiet control?
Will you change your ways when you've grown old?
Does it make any difference which way you turn?
Yes I believe that it does oh yeah
Should you follow your eyes whatever they see?
Would you even consider if you had been deceived?
Its a sudden reaction and you can't turn away
And now that you've come this far, you might as well stay
Does it make any difference which way you turn?
Yes I believe that it does oh yeah
Should you follow a motive wherever it goes?
If it ruins your soul would you admit that you know?
Does it make any difference if you refuse to change?
And would you beg for a year if just an hour remained?
Does it make any difference which way you turn?
Yes I believe that it does oh yeah
Does it make any difference which way you turn?
Yes I'm certain in the end it will

Modern
03:22
|
|||
You say you're waiting. He's waiting too
But he is wondering what else to do.
He spends his money, but he is bored
He looks for friends he can afford
This modern man is on the move but he won't go far
She says she knows that she is destined
To change the world by rooting out
The ones she decides that don't deserve
To wait in line and take her turn
This modern woman is on the move but she won't go far
You say its time to end the war
And end the fighting, but you've ignored
Or you don't know with whom you're dealing
He fosters chaos and loves deceiving
This modern man is on the move but he won't go far
Across the sea, there is a clan
They're hardened killers of modern man
Though once condemned with empty words,
They are defended in more certain terms
These modern men they're on the move but they won't go far
These modern men they're on the move but they won't go far

Aquifer You
02:35
|
|||
Come get some while it lasts, because it won't be long
Before you're left with a bad leg and a broken arm
Come get some while you can, because a day will come
When your neighbor won't care about your sore thumb
Step up and take your share, and spend it anywhere
Pretend you have the right, or lie and say you were never there
Take an easy ride as long as you can
Because your luck could take a turn, and it could force your hand
But if the well runs dry, like its bound to
Don't wait for the gravy train, it won't be waiting for you

Steal Another Ride
02:45
|
|||
I couldn't find my way out of here if I
Wanted to save my five cents and steal another ride
If I lose my mind, it won't cost a dime
I will save what I have left and steal another ride
But this time the authorities take what I have found
I'll ride free even when I am forced to settle down
In the course of time, I'll take what I can find
I'll save eighteen until its twenty-five and steal another ride
I couldn't find my way out of here if I
Wanted to save my five cents and steal another ride

A Thousand To One
02:49
|
|||
The life of a man has no meaning, when one thousand join in a cause
He wasn't one of their own, and his wages were counted as lost
By those who rode the express from Burke to the Sullivan Mill
To blow up the ore concentrator and find their place on the hill
Those who knew him so well must share in a part of the blame
For letting him slip past the union and work without riding the train
He worked and he earned all their wages, so maybe this death he deserved
Or maybe for feeding his family, a privilege for members reserved
Could you hear the common folk shouting their approval for what had been done?
The odds against any compassion for him would be worse than thousand to one.

Arrested
03:51
|
|||
It used to be that you could get arrested
For killing a man or robbing his store
It could be you laid foot on his claim for gold
But either way, you might know what for
But now, a man could go to prison and not even know
Pull you away from your powerless soul
For a law was made the night before
Its been written down and carved in stone
People have died for her in many a war
Now its been handed down to imbeciles and so much worse
And there's no way they'll ever know what for
But now, a man could go to prison and not even know
Pull you away from your powerless soul
For a law was made the night before
The law is written in the heart of everyone
It varies some but not so much as they want to believe
When they fashion a world of their own
Without truth or something permanent to hold
But now, a man could go to prison and not even know
Pull you away from your powerless soul
For a law was made the night before

St. Joseph Drive-By
02:37
|
|||
I drove by in the daylight Lord and never slowed down
I drove by the in the evening Lord and never slowed down
I was on my way to St. Louis to see if Jesus was around
The door was open wide
The lights were all on
The candles were lit Lord
But the people were gone
I cried hey! - Not a soul to be found
I fell down on my knees to see if Jesus was around
I drove by in the daylight Lord and never slowed down
I drove by the in the evening Lord and never slowed down
I could have stopped an hour ago to see if Jesus was around

Welcome Relief
03:54
|
|||
The day that I met a woman from Rome was a day that I'd have been better at home
The way that she spoke could have driven me insane, but there is no reason that I should complain
If what she meant was the same
Then she spoke about leaving and what she would do
She'd been to the Vatican, and she's going there soon
Oh yeah, what a welcome relief!
When I was able to understand, I envisioned what life was in a foreign land
Was it foreign at all? - Was the question I had, but she answered well before I had the chance
And I'm relieved that she did
Then she turned to a stranger and asked where to go
She said it was all because I didn't know
Oh yeah, what a welcome relief!
Later that evening, when I returned home, the doors they were slamming as loud as before
So I left for the night - And I made my way to a restaurant where I knew I could stay
Until it was closed
Then I looked out the window until it started to rain
And I locked the door still waiting in vain
Oh yeah, for a welcome relief!

Coastal In My Mind
03:20
|
|||
There is something that I love about a western town
It may be isolation or the way that people frown
I might go to my grave with a death grip on a sign that reads
"This fly-over continental interior is coastal in my mind"
There are some things that I can't explain about a western town
It may be talk about grades of ore and stories from underground
I might go to my grave with a death grip on a sign that reads
"This fly-over continental interior is coastal in my mind"
When I tried to find
A better coastline
All I was left with
Was an altered mind
There is something that I love about a western town
It may be that the rising tide can't reach our higher ground
But we might go to our graves with a death grip on a sign that reads
"This fly-over continental interior is coastal in my mind"
Yes, I might go to my grave with a death grip on a sign that reads
"This fly-over continental interior is coastal in my mind"

I Asked A Question
03:15
|
|||
I asked a question of Martin Luther
And I tried his friends but still no answer
Well its clear that they don't, and its no use
They don't, no they don't know
I asked a farmer about the weather
I tried the priest. He said "Ask the mayor"
Well its clear that they don't, and its no use
They don't, no they don't know
Come and tell me one time why you're pursuing
My lowly presence at your makeshift meeting
When its clear that they don't, and its no use
They don't, no they don't know
Its like the weather trying to figure
About who to crawl to when you need an answer
And its clear that they don't, and its no use
They don't, no they don't know
I'm glad I've found it, and I'm not leaving
But it makes me anxious that you're still searching
When its clear that you don't, and its no use
You don't, no you don't know
